There’s a new documentary out called “Black Gold“, which looks at the Western coffee culture. One where people are spending $3-4 for an espresso drink, yet where the farmers producing the beans are being paid incredibly little for the black gold they produce. There’s already a movement to help address this, and that’s known as Fair Trade Coffee - which basically ensures that a fair price was paid for those beans ($1.26/lb for conventionally grown, $1.41/lb for organic). I haven’t seen this movie yet, but it sounds like something every coffee drinker should watch. You can find out more at the movie’s official website or see the schedule of screenings here. Component integration has reach a new height (low?) with this all-in-one from Konica Minolta. In addition to an automatic espresso machine, it does scanning, printing, copying, faxing, plays DVDs, displays times in three time zones, oh and has a trash can for your garbage. Thankfully, it’s just a prototype, and they’ll realize that sticking a coffee machine right next to expensive electronics and fresh, clean paper is not the best idea. Be sure to check out their posters and handouts. (via Engadget)
